How to Create a Gallery Wall
Gallery walls are tried-and-true ways to display your favorite photos. While there isn’t one right way to build a gallery wall, there are some tips that can make the process feel easier.
1) Deciding where to put your gallery wall
The first step is deciding where to put your gallery wall. I’m a fan of high-traffic areas where your photos will be seen. Living rooms, hallways, staircases, entryways, and dining rooms are all great options.
You want a large, blank wall to work with. It’s easy for a gallery wall to translate as clutter in small spaces.
Quick Tip for planning your wall: cut paper templates the same size as your frames and hang them to test different layouts.
2) Selecting your style
If your vibe is classic and symmetrical, you’ll want to select matching frames with even spacing. Think nine 12×12 pieces in even rows of three.
If you want your home to feel more lived in and traditional, you might opt for a classic gallery wall that mixes horizontal and vertical photos. You could include images from different sessions, artwork, and keepsakes for a more curated feel. A traditional gallery wall typically has one focal piece, four standard pieces, and four accent pieces. For a visual on this kind of layout, refer to my print packages.
Quick Tip on mixing frames: stay within one to three finishes. This creates a more cohesive look.
3) Choosing your images
Gallery walls are great for setting a tone in your space. They’re done best when you include a mix of images.

Quick Tip on size and professional prints: Bigger prints feel more intentional and less cluttered. Professional prints offer richer color, sharper detail, and greater preservation- all things you’ll notice more with larger prints.
